Generation Z will account for 32% of the earth’s population in 2019 — more than millennials’ 31.5%, according to Bloomberg. Members of Gen Z, born after 2001, differ from their millennial predecessors (born between 1980 and 2000): They only know a digital world and grew up amid the global recession. Demographic differences are expected to be felt as Gen Z starts to vote and make financial decisions.
According to generationz.com.au:
“Gen Z is part of a generation that is global, social, visual and technological.
They are the most connected, educated and sophisticated generation ever.
They are the up-agers, with influence beyond their years.
They are the tweens, the teens, the youth and young adults of our global society.
They are the early adopters, the brand influencers, the social media drivers, the pop-culture leaders.
They comprise nearly 2 billion people globally, and they don’t just represent the future, they’re creating it.”
genertionz.com.au goes on to say:
“Generation Z are digital integrators in that they have integrated technology seamlessly into their lives, and having
used it from the youngest age, it is almost like the air that they breathe, permeating almost all areas of their lifestyle and relationships. Our recent study showed that more than half of Australian young people don’t wear a wristwatch because the smartphone has become the primary device used to tell the time (in addition to being the primary device for getting directions, checking the weather and taking a photo).”
The question we ask at Ntuity is:
“Are we ready for them in the workforce?“.
What will the “office” look like to them?, what will they expect of employers in terms of tools and applications, these digital integrators?
I observe, with some degree of trepidation, my Gen Z granddaughters “OK Google” to their phones and their Google Home as naturally as I would ask someone close to me the time of day.
What does this mean in terms of GenZ’s expectations of business applications moving forward?
At Ntuity we are conducting research into how best to meet those expectations.
We will prototype in the near future, a voice activated version of Ntuity Mobile so look out for announcements.
